- When a player commits to a jersey number, this number becomes the sole property of a specific player. Whereas, AIA will remain sensitive to players becoming attached to numbers if a conflict arises the Jersey Number Assignment Rules will engage.
Jersey Number Assignment Rules
- First Purchased Rule: For AIA WNYAHL Travel and MOHL teams, jersey number seniority begins when you purchase your first WNYAHL Travel or MOHL jersey. This seniority is kept as long as you play within the travel and MOHL levels.
- Please note that AIA House players moving to an AIA WNYAHL Travel or MOHL team carry no seniority regardless of how many years they have been in playing in the AIA House program. Players moving from AIA House to WNYAHL Travel or MOHL will be treated the same as a new player to the association with 0 (zero) years seniority to Aurora Ice Association.
- Age Seniority Rule: If a conflict continues to arise, the Age Seniority Rule applies if the First Purchased Rule does not resolve the conflict. The Age Seniority Rule simply states that the older player will always have the first choice to keep his/her number (with exceptions noted).
- Exception on Age Seniority: Former players that have left AIA for 1 or more years or new players to AIA have lost their number First Purchased Rule seniority. Players losing this seniority reset to 0 (zero) years seniority.
- Other Team Assignment Rule: The organization will entertain requests for numbers, as long as no conflict is in place for any player on the current team, teams an age bracket up, and teams an age bracket down.
- Example: 2011 player with 0 years seniority would like #13. The player may take #13 if the following are met:
- No player on the 2011 team has #13.
- No player on the 2012 team or any combination of 2012 player teams has #13.
- No player on the 2010 team or any combination of 2011 player teams has #13.
- Time on Travel/MOHL Teams Rule: If a conflicting situation continues to remain unresolved, the first choice will be given to the player with longer seniority playing on MOHL and/or travel teams.
- Final Determination Rule: If the above rules cannot resolve a jersey number conflict, the Association Registrar will have the final determination and number assignment.
- Unavailable Numbers: The program does not allow players to wear 00, 0, 99.
